tripmakery

tripmakery offers groups to easily request hotels and receive exclusive offers, incl. group discounts. The manual search of hotels for your group is a thing of the past. The company's platform aggregates over 65,000 accommodation providers across Europe and helps groups upwards of 10 participants such as business trips, (sports) clubs, bachelor parties, or school classes get multiple quotes from different accommodation providers, tap into group discounts, and book their stay through Tripmakery.

Investment Hypothesis:

tripmakery will onboard all relevant hotel(-chains) to their marketplace via API
tripmakery will be the hotel’s preferred booking partner for group bookings
tripmakery will finance most of its growth from its cash generating business

Background at the time of the investment:

It is 2023 and the corona pandemic seems to be forgotten. For tripmakery, the pandemic meant no business at all. The two things, groups and traveling, were a no-go during the two years of the pandemic. However, tripmakery survived the pandemic due to committed existing investors and government grants. They not only survived, it seems they used those two years to increase their operational efficiency and built an API, that allows a reduction in the needed efforts for the hotels and provides customers with a much smoother booking process.

Of course, competition exists, but none of the competitors have an offering that allows for such convenience for hotels and customers and high automation in this case for tripmakery. From our perspective, large players like booking.com or Expedia don’t show any own ambition to build solutions for this untapped potential of group bookings for hotels.
